Otherwise, you not only risk overpaying by buying certain components several times, but you are also unlikely to be able to ensure the reliable and productive operation of your computer, which can be achieved only by assembling the most balanced system.

With the necessary experience, when self-assembling a PC, you can achieve the maximum value for money. But it is better to trust professionals.

Professional assembly to your order. The most suitable option if you do not have the necessary skills. But at the same time, you still need to be extremely careful, trust the assembly to a person or company that has a good reputation. You must clearly explain to the professional what responsibilities will be assigned to the future computer. so that he understands what the characteristics of the device are fundamental for you. For example, a processor that fully satisfies the universal PC is absolutely not suitable for a computer for gamers who prefer modern games.

Computer technology today is represented by a huge variety of devices with different characteristics, which are in a wide price range. Depending on the cost of computers can be divided into several groups, each of which is represented by computer technology capable of solving certain problems.

Budget PC. Quantum computing

Today, quantum computing is more likely a playground for researchers, but within five years they will become a familiar reality for professionals working on problems that previously seemed insoluble. Quantum computing will be mastered everywhere in universities and even (to some extent) at the high school level.

In the near future, such tiny chips can be used as “cryptographic anchors” to track the supply of goods, control food safety, identify genuine luxury goods and so on. Buyers themselves will be able to track the entire path of the goods from production to the time of sale.

Grid Cryptography

To keep up with the times and new technologies, IBM is developing encryption methods that can surpass all existing protocols. A lot of hope lies in the method of post-quantum encryption, the so-called cryptography on lattices, that is, on complex algebraic structures.

Hacking such encryption is practically impossible, even future quantum computers will not be able to do it, IBM representatives assure. That is why this technology can be used to protect the most valuable data from hacker attacks.

AI robots

In the next five years, with the help of artificial intelligence and robotics, one of the most important problems of mankind can be taken under control — pollution of the oceans. It is planned to introduce a network of autonomous microscopes that signal adverse effects.

We are talking about micro-robots united in the cloud and located around the world, capable of monitoring the behavior of plankton. It is plankton that is a biological sensor that characterizes the content of harmful substances in the seas and oceans. Data on the movement of plankton will allow much faster to determine changes in water composition.

Unbiased Artificial Intelligence

To prevent the bias of artificial intelligence from becoming a real problem soon, IBM is already working on systems that can be trusted. First of all, it is AI trained on data free from racial, gender and ideological prejudices.

To this end, the company’s researchers have developed a method of reducing bias, which can be used in the set of educational materials of AI. This approach will create an objective system that will not contribute to the spread of inequality, IBM researchers are sure.

In the framework of the IBM Think 2018 conference held this week in the US, IBM proposed to discuss its idea of ​​”5 in 5″ – the five technologies that will most likely affect society and business over the next five years. IBM believes that such technologies will be blockade, unobtrusive AI, quantum computing, cryptography, and robot microscopes with artificial intelligence. And helping humanity in all these industries will be the newest smallest computer in the world that has developed in IBM Research. The company itself has not presented it yet, but journalists have unearthed details about this interesting device.

The size of the computer is 1 x 1 mm, less than granules of some salt. (In the photo with a finger below – a set of 64 motherboards, each of which contains two such mini-computers). The price of a single device is ten cents.

Prior to this, the smallest computer in the world was Michigan Micro Mote (M3), introduced in 2015. Its dimensions are 2 x 4 x 4 mm. That computer contained a pressure and motion sensor, a radio, a solar cell, and also was able to do a photo and measure the temperature, preserving this information in its memory. Programming of the computer was carried out by light pulses. It is now used in implantable medical devices.

IBM believes that their computer will not only be the smallest but also powerful enough. According to the characteristics, it is comparable to the x86 chip from the 90’s. He has enough power to play on it in the first Doom (which required processor 386 and minimum 4 MB of RAM). The computer has several hundred thousand transistors, SRAM memory and photovoltaic cells for refueling, and it is possible to “provide information” to the surrounding world with the help of a photodetector and a LED. The IBM mini computer is not a video chip and not a processor, but a completely independent device, with no peripherals. Some enthusiasts already plan how they will use LED in the chip as a single-pixel display at the expense of low prices. True, in order to create a full-screen from such devices, it will be necessary to spend more than one hundred thousand dollars.

IBM itself plans to use the device to track the shipment of goods and detect thefts. The computer can also be useful in aviation, automotive, and smart home systems. IBM has believed in the blockade technology, and such chips, in its words, can become reliable “crypt anchors” for such chains.

At the moment, IBM researchers are only testing a prototype, so it’s too early to talk about a commercial launch. But Arvind Krishna (Senior Vice President, Director of Research at IBM) says that:

“For the next five years, tiny computers that are smaller than the crystal salt will be introduced into everyday objects and devices.”
